Evolution  of a Racing Berkeley - A Scrapbook

The first four pictures were taken an the Alabama Regional Divisionals run at Courtland AFB in the summer of 1962. Here, the car is running in class H Production, has no headlight covers, rear bumperettes, and a stock exhaust.

Some drivers have remarked on the lack of shade at Courtland, and remember that it was particularly hard on tires.

For 1963, the car was painted red (the previous color was "Olde English Gray Primer") and some "go-fast" modifications were made. The only obvious change here is lack of parking lights in the front.

The Berkeley rolls out in its shiny new paint job, new numbers, and new class - H Modified.

Note the lack of rear bumperettes.

On the grid, next to an HM Bandini.

A new exhaust system was fitted, with three-into-one pipes running out the front.

A nice shot, showing a sanitary engine compartment. Changes from stock included moving the battery to the rear, a dual braking system, and internal engine and carburetor mods.
