Berkeley Restoration -

Doug Jayne is about finished with the restoration of his father Ted's racecar. All photos courtesy of Doug. Be sure to look at other references to this car by using the links below. A stunning Berkeley, with racing history.

The starting point...  I included this in the racing section also, to point out that the trailer is the original. The trailer fenders were made of fiberglass using the same advanced process as the headrest/cockpit cover.

"[This] picture is in my driveway in late 2005 when I started to restore it. It hadn't otherwise been off the trailer since 1965."

"Before and after" shot of the punt nose area. I presume the car is headed for the paint shop in this photo.
Doug fabricated all new metalwork from stainless steel.
The 3 cylinder Excelsior waiting to be re-installed. Doug is using a modified Boyer Bransden electronic ignition originally designed for a Kawasaki KH250. I love the color.
The car is one of the early style S-E 492's, with outside door hinges but the later dash style. Late 328's also shared this characteristic. "After 2 years and about 1500 hours of work I am close to driving the car again."
Another Berk is now operational! It's hard to believe this was once a race car.
